Um, about that photo…

June 17, 2008

Way back in the beginning of May, I finished weaving in the last ends of Rusted Root.  The Mr. and I were both sitting on the couch watching a movie, me with my knitting and him with his trusty laptop.  The movie was about a lonely neurotic woman whose neuroses about being lonely lead to poor decisions that left her even lonelier.  As a very neurotic woman, I get a little frustrated and bored with these types of movies.  And the Mr.’s all, NO MORE NEUROTIC WOMEN - he has me and the uber wound up shitty kitty all over his ass all the time (seriously, that man is incredibly patient considering what the two of us put him through, like that one time I totally lost it when he said America’s Next Top Model is crap).  The Bigfoot we were both drinking helped with the movie, but not enough.  I knew I was cutting it close on the yarn, but I didn’t realize how close until I snipped the last stray tail.  Mid-depressing scene about the SO VERY LONELY woman, I jumped up from the couch, ran into the office, grabbed the camera and started taking pictures, to the Mr.’s dismay.

Cutting it close

While he paused the movie, I tried to explain that my rude, slightly-drunk jumping around was due to the fact that, for the first time ever, I was close to running out of yarn.  Like Knitting as Fast as She Can close. That moment had to be documented.  It was special.  Normally I have something like two skeins left over and this time I didn’t even have enough to kitchner another underarm.  It’s a good thing I don’t have three arms.

I don’t have any real photos of Rusted Root - the sweater is currently sitting in my stack of knits to be blocked.  So is this little gem:

Gossamer Stars

Gossamer Stars from Summer 2008 IK knit with Zephyr wool/silk lace weight.  Yummy and really in need of a good blocking.

How to be shitty, part 32,168.

Blogless Karen called Monday night.  Kally and the Mr. were in the office playing with the inner workings of a new computer and I was finishing up the second front of my Central Park Hoodie.  Kally enjoys helping with the computer - all those wires must look so delicious, the little parts must be really fun to swat around the room, and the tools must be so awesome to play with (the tools are pretty awesome to play with).  Anyway, after I had answered the phone, I took a seat at the dining room table, a good place for a chat.  The Mr. watched Kally run from the office to my knitting space.  Full-on trot.  At first, he didn’t know exactly where she was going or what she was planning to do (we both know that full-on trot means playtime/shitty-kitty-time), so he followed her.  He found her sitting in the middle of the room looking for yarn to eat, yarn that I would have set down when I got up to answer the phone.  She really wanted to eat some yarn and I was completely distracted…

Thank you all!

Thank you so much for your kind words regarding the Mr. The extraction went well and the he is doing fine. Although, I think he might be a little sick of all the vanilla ice cream I’ve shoved at him. But seriously, who gets sick of vanilla ice cream? Especially when I can walk to the old-school drive-in that specializes in “mini” shakes the size of Texas. The “regular” can feed an army.

Internets, a year and a half ago, I started going to SNB and met some of the most amazing women out there. Seriously. No, seriously. Sundays and Tuesdays are always bright days, regardless of the weather. I get so excited to go knit with my grrlfriends. This past Tuesday night, I came home from SNB glowing - you can all see the shiny glow over at Margene’s blog. And I do mean shiny.

Every morning I have a routine. I’m really quite boring and stick to the same schedule every day and even every week - there is something to be said for a very boring routine. So, I start out by pouring myself a cup of coffee - always black, turn on my computer, read my email and then log onto bloglines. I scroll to the very bottom, and read Zeneedle first. I’m horrible at commenting, but I do read every single day. Margene is so nice, sweet, and genuine. And funny. She is so inspiring with such a wonderful outlook on life and the process.

the card is hand-made and the green ribbon is all that is left from the xocolate - it sure didn’t last long

Then, working the alphabet backwards, I read Chris and Teri’s blogs. While Chris isn’t a Utah Grrl, I do love her blog and continue to not comment though I’m there everyday. Kally has a major crush on Chaos. Teri is one of the sweetest people I have met. She is not only nice, but incredibly smart and a pleasure to chat with. I am so glad I’ve had the chance to get to know her. Besides, she’s completely adorable!

check out the color depth, so subtly beautiful, and she made those pouches!

Continuing to work backwards, the next in line is Michaele, the wonderful Knitty Professor. I could listen to her for hours. Seriously, she is so engaging and so much fun. I will miss her dearly when she leaves for Colorado in June. The past year, getting to know her has been an absolute pleasure! And, you can’t tell Kally, but I do think her cats, Emily and Perry, are pretty cute!

yarn cakes - who could ask for more!

Then, we hit Katherine of it all. Seriously, why have cotton when you can have Katherine? (It’s about this time that I start mixing my breakfast: 1/2 cup granola and 1/2 cup bgh free organic yogurt because I have issues with cows) Katherine is fabulous. I am in awe of her fabulousness. She really does it all and looks great while doing it all. Seriously, I would give my right arm for her hair and half of her talents - but I don’t think I’d be good at any of them with out my right arm.

hand-made soap: fabulous!

yarn: fabulous!

Next, we have Susan. Okay, I have a confession - sometimes I’ll rearrange my order and read Susan right after Margene because I just can’t wait. Susan blows my mind! And that is such a good thing. I’ve never met anyone so passionate about all of their crafts. I have learned so much from Susan, including how to cast on for a toe up sock and complete the short row toe, how to fix mistakes without throwing my knitting across the room, and how to spot the troublesome parts of patterns. Susan really is an incredibly fast knitter and a good portion of the things she makes never makes it to her blog. All I have to do is talk with her and I learn so much. Besides, she named a yarn after me!

yes, susan dyed this yarn just for me …

… and the hat fits!

Last, but certainly not least, we have Gwen. I could talk to Gwen for hours. She is so much fun, considerate, caring and just the nicest person you will ever meet. I would love to be as carefree and easy-going as Gwen is - but that would require that I not get so stressed and anxious every single time my routine is slightly disrupted (say I’m out of yogurt) and that’s not gonna happen any time soon. One thing Shitty Kitty and I have in common, perhaps it’s why we get along so well, is our affection for routine, and our complete and utter dislike for change.

of course the chocolate didn’t last, but the handmade point protectors will last forever!

I could go on and on about the blogless grrls I knit with too. On and on, I tell you. I love everyone I knit and bitch with on Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons. Utah grrls, you rock!

Holy shitskee - I almost forgot Laure, the Green Eyed Grrl. She’s finally back to blogging after an extended break, thank god. Now, Laurie is another one of the grrls I could spend hours talking to. Seriously, every Tuesday, I’m there late chatting it up with Laurie, the founder of our local SNB group. She is so smart and such a spitfire - and she’s much younger at heart that I am. I truly admire Laurie.

I truly admire all of my knitting grrlfriends. You are the best. Thank you all for your love and kindness. May we all continue to get our knit and sass on!
