Mohair Mountain

November 27, 2006

Ages and ages ago I knit a scarf for my mother. She picked out the yarn and the pattern and I knit while the Mr. drove us to Oregon. This weekend, my mother pulled out her scarf and asked that I shorten it about 8 inches. After all that ripping, my desk looked like this…

see the new router? I can’t break this one by putting the keyboard on top of it… clearly eliza-proof!

Rather than attack the mountain of yarn, Kally decided to hide from the mohair.

if i can’t see it, i can’t eat it… no mohair to eat, no siree…

Better late than never?

November 1, 2006

Okay, so I’m just now getting around to posting pictures of socks for Soctober - which sadly ended yesterday. The month of Soctober has been an interesting one. First, our router failed (it’s been agreed that I’m the one who broke it because I put the keyboard on top of the fan - more than once, I’ll have you know - which caused the poor thing to overheat and fry itself). Then the Mr. and I bought a new hard drive to go with the new router. Once the computer was put back together, we decided to keep on messing and changed our anti-virus software. The one we picked had a reputation of being rock solid and was used by several universities. Sounded good. Within 30 hours of going live with the new anti-virus our computer was infected with a nasty virus. The past month has been spend rebuilding and the hard drive containing our 4500+ photos has been sitting on a shelf completely disconnected from the computer. Internets, blogging with out pictures is boring. I’d hate to do that to you.

First, we have the tall Trekking socks, all finished and completely non-matching, the way I like them.

I finished with just enough yarn to spare. Phew.

I took this picture on one of the many over cast days we had about a week and a half ago. When I staged another photo shoot, the one where I took all the other photos in this post, I totally forgot to take another picture of the rainbow socks. Oh, well.

Next we have the long over-due FO photo of Child’s First Sock in STR.

I absolutely love the texture of these socks. This is the second pair that I’ve made (the first is here) and I would make another pair, and maybe another - kind of like Cara and her Jaywalkers. I really love these socks.

Hmmmm…. what have we here?

That would be Trekking socks for the Mr. in blue. He needs a pair of lovingly hand-knit socks for all the hard work he’s done this past month. (For anybody who is counting, that would be just over a pair and a half of socks for Socktober, not to shabby if you ask me.)

so, when are you going to knit something for me? i’ve earned it by being extra shitty.

But, socks are not the only thing on the needles. I’ve started another Mountain Stream Scarf using Susan’s pattern and some lovely mohair I received as a gift for cat-sitting. The kitties belong to one of Margene’s guest bloggers, Karen, and can be seen here and here.

Shitty kitty says:

that mohair mountain looks delicious! seriously delicious! mmmm…. mohair….

Just for fun, I have a sky picture from Kally’s viewpoint when she becomes the bird whisperer.

I *heart* fall!

for Halloween, i’m going as bad-ass shitty kitty. don’t you dare think of dressing me up…

Mountain Stream Scarf - done - and other stuff

May 8, 2006

I’m such a bonehead. Seriously. I must be too new to this whole blogging thing. I finished my Mountain Stream Scarf and blocked it over the weekend, then gave it to its new owner - all without taking any pictures. Not a single photo. It turned out lovely and I may end up with a photo some other time down the road. Who knows. I still can’t believe I didn’t think to take a picture of any sort.

To help ease the frustration I was feeling, Kally showed me how to use the wall as an aide for Downward-Facing Dog Kitty.

kally says: it fells so good - you really should try it

Also, my sock pal, Carrieoke, has posted the socks I made for her. You can see them here.

I started working on the Weekender Bag. I spent three hours cutting out fabric last night and I still have the interfacing to cut out before I can start sewing. Over here is a really cute finished Weekender Bag. I wasn’t sure how the end pockets were going to work - I read the pattern over and over and just couldn’t visualize where they went and what their purpose was - until I saw Elliphantom Knit’s bag on the Sew, I Knit blog. The side view shows that the end pockets sit at the base of the zipper to create a clean line with a bit of functionality and I finally had an ah-ha moment.

Crazy about lace…

May 5, 2006

So I had this totally brilliant idea that I would knit up Susan’s Mountain Stream Scarf for Mother’s Day. I started the scarf over the weekend and knit up five whole repeats before I decided to count my stitches and make sure I had the right number. I had two extra stitches, one on each of the borders, and traced my way back to find the mistake on the very first repeat. The fucker when flying across the room and I had to work on something else. Yeah, I may love the process, but sometimes the process can be a total pain in the ass. So, I finally finished Cherie v.2.0 and the first of the retina searing koigu socks - pictures to come soon. Then, I started another sock because I’m like that.

my, what pretty picot you have…

So, I eventually pulled myself back together and started over on Mountain Steam.

eight of fourteen repeats and no mistakes - fingers remain firmly crossed

oh, look at the little streams winding around the mountains

But, Mountain Stream is not the only lace project I’ve been working on. While taking the Mr. from appointment to appointment, I worked on two projects (i) a pair of socks for the Mr. (finished and so not photographed yet) and (ii) Eunny’s Print ‘O the Wave Stole (nowhere near finished, but photographed).

i *heart* this pattern

So, while I was MIA from blogland the past few weeks, my knitting bag was far from MIA. And Ms. Kally is so sick of the knitting.

seriously.
